Funeral Director Monthly 2012 Photographer of the Year Competition

We are pleased to announce the second Funeral Director Monthly Photographer of the Year competition, and readers are now invited to send in entries for the 2012 award.

A selection of the best pictures will be used as front covers for the Funeral Director Monthly over the following year. The final closing date for entries is 13 April 2012, but entries submitted earlier may be selected to feature within the Funeral Director Monthly at any point.

Prizes

1st place: balloon trip for two
2nd place: £100 photographic voucher
3rd place: £50 photographic voucher

Submissions

There will be no categories this year so entries can be on any subject you choose – whether it be landscapes, holiday, abstracts, nature, portraits, the seasons, funeral related or anything that reflects your photographic ability (see the rules for any exceptions).

You can submit up to six photographs and submissions must all be digital.

Rules, Terms and Conditions

1. Entrants should take note of the following restrictions for pictures.

1a. If a photograph is funeral related, photographs should not directly impose on the grief of the bereaved. Photographs of the deceased will not be permitted.

1b.Any photograph submitted must be tasteful and suitable for publication within the Funeral Director Monthly. The organiser reserves the right to refuse any entry that it deems unsuitable.

2.Photographs must be provided in digital format and be capable of being enlarged to a minimum of 10 x 8 inches in high resolution (recommended minimum 3 megapixels). Images can be in black and white or in colour. Whilst photographs may be retouched to remove spots and blemishes, image manipulation is not permitted.

3. Entrants must not be professional photographers. A professional photographer will be considered to be someone who makes their main income from the sale of their photographs.

4. Employees of the National Association of Funeral Directors, the Funeral Director Monthly or any person employed by a company providing (creative) direct services to the National Association of Funeral Directors or the Funeral Director Monthly are not permitted to enter.

5. Whilst the photographer will still retain the copyright of the image(s), full rights must be given to Funeral Director Monthly to publish in any way it feels suitable. It will also be deemed that no payment will be made to the entrant, nor will any profit made by the National Association of Funeral Directors or the Funeral Director Monthly as a result of publication be made available to the entrant. Submissions must not have been previously entered into any other competition, have been used for any commercial purpose or have been previously published.

6. Each entrant may provide up to six images, which must be accompanied by a completed entry form (available from Su Lewis at su@nafd.org.uk).

7. The Funeral Director Monthly accepts no responsibility for any images that are lost. Proof of postage is not accepted as proof of receipt.

8. Entries can be accepted from the owner or employee of any company or business that provides a service within the funeral profession.

9. You must obtain permission from any person who can be identified within any photograph submission and, in the case of any person under the age of 18, this permission must be provided in written form by the parent or guardian. The Funeral Director Monthly accepts no responsibility for claims that may arise from persons included in any photograph.

10. Ten finalists will be chosen and the images will be on display during the NAFD Conference on 17 – 20 May 2012 when delegates will vote on the overall winner and two runners up.

11. All entries must be provided together with the name and address of the entrant and the entrant must declare that the photograph was taken by themselves. Any photograph proven to have been taken by another person will be rejected..

12. Final Closing date for entries is 13 April 2012.

13. Photographic entries will not be returned .

14. Details of the successful entries will be printed in the Funeral Director Monthly and posted on the National Association of Funeral Directors’ website. Where suitable, the images may also be used as front cover images for future publications of the Funeral Director Monthly.
